GIAAC’s FNB Cross Country Series has kicked off again with the traditional opening fixture at Delancey Park, they had a record turnout with over 120 runners completing the full distance. One of the great things about the cross country series is the format. It starts with a relatively a short race of 3 miles – or 2 miles for novice ladies and then gradually gets longer as the 6 race series progresses.
Perhaps the best factor is that after the opening two fixtures the competitors are divided into divisions by ability, giving everyone a race within a race. The higher division’s races get longer whilst at the lower end the race length is limited meaning it is accessible for all athletes.
Added to that are races for juniors in the under 13 categories – the older juniors get mixed into the lower divisions and even the under 11’s get races of their own afterwards.
